My earliest memory of art in my life was at 2 1/2 years old, the day my sister was born. My father was in the backyard building a playhouse for me as I was sitting on the floor in the kitchen. The art was somewhere between the birth of my sister and the decorative playhouse being built for me. I started to take notice.

Since then, I have realized that having art in my life makes me feel …….complete. I love to be surrounded by art. I have always opted for more art on the walls than less. I can remember as a teenager loving to hang up my mother’s art on the walls of our basement. It’s helpful that my mom is Elaine Binder, an artist who taught me to appreciate art at a young age. I have been around art my entire life and continue to pursue having art as a huge part of my life here at Tom Binder Fine Arts.
Art sometimes influences our lives where we live. This is one of the reasons I love living in Santa Monica, California. Art in this city is represented in a variety of ways. Santa Monica has a very welcoming attitude toward all arts including developing public venues throughout the city both in enclosed venues and public spaces. Even our parking structures have been beautified to be more aesthetically pleasing!

The aim of art is to represent not the outward appearance of things, but their inward significance. ~ Aristotle
I believe art influences our lives in these 3 important ways:
- Creates a right and left brain connection.
- Art can have a calming effect on the viewer when the right combination of style, technique and form are integrated in the final product.
- Provides a revenue stream for the artist and community when shown correctly
What’s your perspective on art and how it influences our lives? I'd love to hear!
